Re: Southbeach Diet

I read it over the summer. I like some of the theorie etc but IMO its a temporary diet. It only brings short term results.

Re: Southbeach Diet

I'm back on Phase 1 right now trying to lose some of the weight I put on over the holidays. I agree that the results are never quite as dramatic as the first time you switch to a low-carb diet. The first time around I lost 14lbs in 2 weeks. It was hard the first time because I was such a carb addict.

Re: Southbeach Diet

I've done thsi diet, it is really not a diet, it is a lifestyle change. You can't just do it for a brief time and then go bacl to regular eating. It is like becoming a vegetarian, you must want to have a certain eating habit long term rather than just to lose a few pounds. If you go back to eating regular carb food or sugar based foods you gain back TWICE as much weightChat Icon

Re: Southbeach Diet

DH and I have tried Southbeach before. We were strict the first two weeks, but kind of let it fall to the side as life got in the way.

The preparation for the meals is a lot of work. Sometimes the prep work, the cooking, the eating and the the clean up took us 2 hours a night, and that may or may not include making lunch for the next day. That was tough with both of us working full time.

I will say, however, that we got some great new recipes from their books (we bought several different versions). There are some combinations of food we would have never thought worked, and turned out awesome.

DH still references the Southbeach cookbooks quite often when making dinner.

ETA: This is the cookbook we use the most in addition to the blue intro book.

Re: Southbeach Diet

I have done it and although it could not work as a long term way of life for me, It definitely got me onto the path of long-term weightloss. I was on it I believe for 2 months and it helped me to get my appetite under control and to start eating healthier foods. I switched to WW after losing about 7 pounds.
