Contact wearers- Question for you..

Have your eyes been really sensitive during your pregnancy?? I have also noticed that where I ususally take my lenses out and just soak them over night with the no-rub stuff, they dont come out as clean as if they were rubbed prior to putting in the case. (Does that make sense?) Just wondering if anyone else had any type of change in their eyes while preggo! TIA.

Re: Contact wearers- Question for you..

The inside corners of my eyes have been itchy, so I put in a new pair of contacts and they're STILL itchy! But as far as the contacts getting more dirty than normal, I don't think they have. I don't have to rub them before I put them in the case.
Maybe you're building up more protein on your contacts now that you're PG?

Re: Contact wearers- Question for you..

Funny that you posted this -- I had my first eye exam since being PG just yesterday and I mentioned that my contacts have felt different ever since I was PG. Not as bad PP, but still much drier and irritating. She said PG affects your mucous membranes, and that your eye is one giant mucous membrane. She told me to stay hydrated, and actually switched the brand that I've worn forever to a new one that isnt as drying and allows more oxygen to get in. They really feel better already.

I could have written this myself. I dont know why it is but I've read that pregnancy can change your vision and make it hard to wear contacts.

Re: Contact wearers- Question for you..

Yup, I didn't have the problem where my contacts dried out, but my vision got much worse and was causing me to get awful migraines. I got an eye exam and had to get new stronger contacts. I was told my vision might/might not revert back to what it was after the baby is born.

I got drops from my doc for the itchiness while prego. It turns out I developed some allergy to my contacts and we changed brands and use prescript drops called PATANOL.

Re: Contact wearers- Question for you..

Wow thats crazy-- I thought it was just me.. I am so happy to hear that others have gone through something similar. I have been wearing the same brand since before I had my son, so I didn't think it was an allergy, but everything mentioned above seems to make sense, and since I do dehydrate easily maybe that was what it was yesterday.. They feel 90% better this am then they did last night.. I was getting ready to flush them!! Chat Icon But then I realized I would no longer be able to see! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yep, my eyes have felt dry. I can't wait to get them off when I come back from work.

Re: Contact wearers- Question for you..

I've always had problems with dryness, but recently I started using a different contact solution and it has made a HUGE difference. Now I use Renu with Moisture Loc. It's in a slightly different bottle than the other Renu solutions. I used to be constantly putting drops in my eyes, but since I started using this solution I hardly ever have to.
