What is more espensive? F

To build a new home or buy a house that's being resold in other states.?

i think that it depends on where...

if you are talking about NY..then i think it is more expensive to build a home...

RIght now the land alone is expensive and then to build a home in it is $$$$$$

another thing about building a new home here in NY is your taxes will be through the roof!! New construction taxes are sickening!!

I just realized you meant all together in places like Fla... i think it really depends on the situation... there is a lot of bulding going on down there and a lot of opportunities to buy new construction houses at a great deal... if you buy an already built house, sometimes that will take some work to make it just how you like it, but when you buy a new house you get to pick just how you like everything to be... my uncle lives in Fla and just moved into their house that they had built... it is beautiful and the value of his property has already gone up...

also, remember in most places in fla the houses are very close together so it is hard to by a house that yuou could hope to build on to in a few years...

depends on where you are looking....it was cheaper for us to buy a home that wasn't started yet in another county than where we were looking in GA. Alot depends on popularity and development of the area....there is nothing out here yet, so it was relatively cheap (for now)

buying before the house is built is cheaper than once it starts going.


there is a market in speculation where people put down payments on lots and than sell the down payments...and can make some money off this (although this practice will probably be one of the first things affected when the market slows)



but I think the issues are:
*its hard to find land - well at least hard to find one lot - and contractors will always be a better buyer than an individual
*new houses that are being built are MUCH bigger than the 1960s houses that are on the market - so that alone makes them more expensive
