I'm assuming it was probably bacterial meningitis? I am always so worried about it b/c anyone can get it (+ I am a hypochondriac  ) I think what happens is that most people mistake the symptoms of meningitis for the flu or something similar and than dont get treatment right away and than it is too late.
It was the stapphococolous (spelling???) meningitis. This is so sad. They said he went home Wednesday night with flu like symptoms. In the a.m. he was unresponsive and he died at the hospital that afternoon.
I guess if you have fever and vomiting it is best to go to the doctor immediately.

It is so sad. So many people are unaware than anybody and everyone is suseptible and that the symptoms are often mistaken for the flu or migraine headaches. You dont always have all of the symptons either. The bacteria that causes meningitis lives in the back of our throats and noses. You can have an ear infection which can lead to meningitis. Anytime I can more than 1 symptoms, especially b/c I very rarely get sick, I go to the dr. immediately. You just never know!

oh yes her dad was just in our office here at my job..everyone is devastated, they know the family very well

Isn't there a vaccine for bacterial meningitis now? I remember I got it before I went away to college. I thought kids got it much younger these days though. But I guess there are different strands.

I had spinal meningitis when I was five but thankfully it was cured. I was in the hospital for two weeks during Christmas. I don't remember much but my mother tells me that the doctors weren't sure if I would make it. I was lucky.

It is incredibly sad. It is amazing how something so menacing and deadly can look like something so common.
I have to say when I had severe food poisoning a few months ago, they wanted to check me for spinal meningitis. I was feverish and vomiting and they immediately put me in isolation and handled me as contact-contagious.
The Doctor in the ER told me that it was going around LI and that they had seen several cases earlier that month.

did her dad teach in baldwin? i saw his picture with the family in the paper and i swear he looks just like my old music teacher.
