Help, I have another monkey wrench for you
I got a call today from a Suffolk County School District. They said they are anxious to hear from me and hope that I will come in for an interview on Friday.
This position would start ASAP and be for next year (probationary) as well. I would ahve to leave the NYC DOE mid year, how bad is that? What would you do?

i would take it and run and leave mid-year! basically, they are offering you a tenure track position mid-year... i would definitely go on the interview and if you get it, leave the DOE.... jobs are hard to come by on LI... i wouldn't pass this up!

i would agree since you want to work on LI to leave NYC but dont expect to come back to work in a NYC public school cause they will flag your record for leaving mid-year so i have been told

ITA!!
Jump at a LI job even if it means leaving the city mid-year... they are very hard to come by these days.

If it is a tenure track I will take it and run. If it is a leave, I will not leave a full time position for it.

not sure of the logistics....but could you take a leave of absense from NYC? personal family reasons, etc - something like that? just throwing out the idea - not sure if it's viable.

They can't flag your record if you give 30 days notice. You can leave the DOE and come back if you left on good terms.

Plus, I think if you leave the DOE with tenure and in good standing, they hold your position for one year...meaning you can come back if it doesn't work out and the person that replaced you or the lowest on the totem pole gets bumped...
Check into that.
