We rarely go out for Italian since that's DH's Sunday meal, but in the past I've ordered

Eggplant parm (probably not the best option, but it is a vegetable versus a pastaChat Icon)

Seafood

or

Save my points (which reminds me how pasta, even if I love it, really isn't worth the extra points)

You can order a nice big mixed salad w/ grilled chicken.

Some places have eggplant that is not breaded.....but its rare to find that.

Or a Fish w/ veggies (if you like seafood).

a lot of italian restaurants have whole wheat pasta. they don't usually put it on the menu. you have to ask. whole wheat pasta and a red sauce with some parm.

This is usually what I do. If you're in the mood for pasta just plain spaghetti with marinara sauce.

Here are some ww suggestions from the dining out give out they give at meetings:

Eggplant, breaded and fried 2 slices - 4 pts
Lasagna with meat 4'' x 2 1/2 '' or 1 cup - 6 pts
Pasta regular, 1 cup cooked - 4 pts
Spaghetti with marinara, 1 cup spaghetti, 1/2 cup sauce - 6 pts
Italian wedding soup 1 cup - 5 pts

They also suggest pizza. I have done that before going to a restaurant with friends and I really wanted pizza instead so the restaurant let me order two slices of grandma.

Also try looking on the ww website for food and recipes and then restaurants. Then pick italian. Right now all I am getting is core stuff because it is set to core!

HTH!

What if you start with a soup like minetrone to fill you up?
It's high in fiber and low in calories....

Do you like seafood? You can get shrimp scampi......
Or you can get pasta primavera, that's not too bad.

For dessert get a skim latte or something.

I have ordered:
-a side order of pasta with tomato sauce (probably about 2 servings or more so you have to be careful) with a mixed green salad and dressing on the side.
-Grilled fish with veggies (but depends on fish - I'll cut it so I'm only eating about 4 ounces - some servings of fish at restaurants are huge)
-Had pizza at Bertuccis and had 2 small veggie slcies and some salad.

Re: WW'ers - What do you eat when you go out for Italian?

The girls above made great suggestions.

Eating out Italian for me is tough because I come from an italian family and definitely eat my share of pasta and sauce. When I go out to eat at an Italian restaurant, I normally want to order something I don't normally have at my mom's (since to me it is very hard to beat the foods she does make.) I normally treat myself to penne alla vodka, which I count at 10 points per cup (even though WW online says it's 7 points.) Lynne used to tell us to order the sauce on the side and use the fork dipping method, which saves on lots of points.

I have also ordered Pizza or a chicken dish that is not breaded or battered. I try to go for something sauteed if they don't have something grilled.

I guess your choices have to do with how many points you are looking to spend. Just make sure it is something you will enjoy!

Bumping this because I went for Italian last night and did great thanks to your suggestions. Had salad and then half of my manicotti and was within my points range for yesterday. It feels so good to be good Chat Icon

I usually get Chicken Paillard (grilled chicken over spinach) or some sort of shrimp.
