What were the firsts....for your house...
First things you bought for your home?
(ie: toilet bowls? lawn mower? grill? security system?furniture?)
First thing you renovated/updated?
What are your long term goals?

new locks new toilet bowl seats new flooring
We did a ton of little projects but our first MAJOR renovation was the kitchen.
Our long term goals are to get a new roof, get a new privacy fence, reface the front of the house and re-do the landscaping. All of those items are in our ten year plan.

Re: What were the firsts....for your house...
With our first house, we first bought ... Garbage cans Toilet bowl seats Gazebo for the backyard
First renovated... Major refinishing of the basement, added a second bathroom, scraped every wall of wallpaper, painted, and added moulding, refinished wood floors. It took us about 1.5 years to get the inside exactly the way we wanted.
On our new house ... We moved right in! We truly bought a "move in condition" home. In fact, I even bought rooms of furniture from the seller. (She was an interior decorator and had just renovated the entire house 2 years ago.) We got lucky with this one. The only thing we'll do within the next 3 years is add Central Air and refinish the driveway. Oh and shange the shudders from Cranberry to Black.

Re: What were the firsts....for your house...
well, we haven't moved in yet, but when we do we are going to do the floors (sand and stain wood floors), upgrade the electric, paint and fix some of the sidewalk out front. Everything else will be done over time.
Of course, new toilet seats, that is a must!
But our house is mostly move in condition.

We had the whole place painted before we moved in. Then we bought new bedroom furniture.
Hopefully next we'll build our roof deck

Re: What were the firsts....for your house...
we closed in June so all of the lawn and outdoor stuff was first. Then we painted and removed wall paper, in every room. The we did rennovated one of the full bathrooms because there was a very bad water leak. I picked one room at a time and tried to do the ones I would be spending the most time in first.

Re: What were the firsts....for your house...
Just to be able to be there, I replaced the toilet bowl seats and locks immediately. In the week before I moved in, I put a fresh coat of paint on every wall and ceiling.
Then I moved in and over the past 5 years, I have replaced every window, door, outlet, wire, floor - and gutted and rebuilt each bathroom and the kitchen. All we have left now is our spare bedroom, the basement, and a new walkway and patio. Then we'll move.

In our old condo, we painted and re-did all the rugs before move in. Also setup service contracts.

WE got bedroom furniture so we could have something to sleep on! And then we repaced the front door!
