gallbladder surgrey

Has any one had a gallbladder removed recently? Is it an over night stay in the hospital or just ambulatory?

I had it done a few years ago - They normally do it ambulatory - but surgeon insisted i stay over night because it was my first surgery and first time being put out - he wanted to make sure I was ok...

I was supposed to stay overnight, however I begged for the surgeon to discharge me the same night, I just couldnt get comfortable in the hospital bed.

I know. I feel like I am still recovering from the c-section though and to do this now s*cks big time.

Trust me I understand. When they removed my gallbladder they found that i had a hernia. I had to go back a month later for that surgery. No more surgeries for me for a long time I hope.

Re: gallbladder surgrey

My mom had it done, three years ago, laprascopically, at Syosset. At the time her surgeon, had done more of the laprascopic procedure then anyone else in the northeast. She went in at 9am and was home by 2:30 (I remember it distinctly because I was back for my daughter's bus at 3).

I know it stinks, but good luck.

Re: gallbladder surgrey

Mine was overnight but I was an emergency case. I was scheduled for Outpatient but I developed a large stone.

The surgery itself was very easy, in and out.

Recovery was a bit worse...but some bad gas pains and difficulty walking for a while was the worst of it.

Your gallbladder is pretty small so its not too invasive.

Its gonna be a breeze I swear Chat Icon

I had stones ( a few) and went in on an "emergency. I was admitted Sun Night/MonAM (3:30).
They did the surgery Tues night and I came home Thursday.
I was going to be discharged Wed. afternoon, however, surgeon told me my gall bladder was "Very sick" and he wanted to watch me one more night.
It was lap. and an easy procedure.

I had mine done and was home by nighttime. They like to have you stay overnight but I just wanted to be home. BUT-----I recommend staying..I came home in AGONY just so I could be home and it wasn't worth it. STAY THE NIGHT-YOU GET MEDS! Chat Icon

Re: gallbladder surgrey

I stayed overnight but went in thru ER andd my surgery was late in day. Was discharged before 24 hours. It wasn't too bad of a surgery.
