Do you think its appropriate...
I am trying to get a second part-time job on the weekends. I have an interview lined up and they need me two bring to letters of recommendation. Do you think its inappropriate to ask my full-time job for a letter?
They are two totally different fields.

Re: Do you think its appropriate...
hmm, I personally wouldn't, especially from my boss. If it was a fellow co-worker, I may.

Re: Do you think its appropriate...
I wouldn't - I don't like my current employer to know too much of what goes on in my personal life.

Re: Do you think its appropriate...
wow, can't believe this got moved. I am thinking of asking a woman who was my "supervisor" for my last project but is not really in a supervisory role, she's more of a co-worker.
I'd like to tell them - YEAH I NEED A SECOND JOB CAUSE YOU DON'T PAY ME ENOUGH!!!
I don't know who else I would get a recommendation from. I've been there for three years and don't like anyone from my last job.

maybe you have a friend that can be a reference for you...someone in your line of work that you do not work with.

I wouldn't ask.
The last thing I would want my current job thinking is that I'm not "focused" on my job.

No, this is the first job I've been in in this field. The part time job is not even related at all. I work full time in publishing and the part time job is for a hospital. I used to work in a hospital back in 2004, but it was only for 6 months and I can't remember the last name of my manager. I am going to use the ambulance corps where I volunteered for one, I just don't know what to do about the other...

Are you in touch with any former co-workers? Or would a personal reference suffice since it's p/t?

Unfortunately, no. and no. It has to be on a company letterhead so personal wouldn't suffice.
Ugh. I don't know what to do.

That sounds like a good idea.
I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't have a big problem asking my current boss for a recommendation. I'd make it clear when I asked that the second job would be during hours when I wasn't working the first job, and that it wouldn't interfere with the first job in any way. And if I got the second job, I'd make sure that was true. In theory, the boss shouldn't take issue with it, but of course that all depends on what kind of boss you have.
