How many packages of diapers should I have?
stocked up for when we come home?? Right now I have 2 packs of Huggies Newborns and several size 1s in different brands.

That sounds good. Some babies are too big for Newborn size, so you don't want to stock up on those. And keep your reciept so you can exchange them for size 1's if your baby is too big for them.
You also don't want to stock up on too many of the same brand until you figure out what works best for your baby. Huggies leaked on Sarah, Pampers Swaddlers worked really well. As did White Cloud (Walmart brand) up until size 2. Once we moved to size 3 they also leaked, but the Pampers cruisers worked well.

That's plenty for now. Like Sarahsmommy said, you don't yet know how big your baby will be, and which diapers you'll like best so 2 packs is plenty. Plus the hospital sends you home with a bajillion diapers too.

Make sure you have different sizes. We had ons of size 1 swaddlers and they are too big!

Yes me too. Also, I bought a pack of Especially for Baby (BRU brand) and they are horrible! I ended up throwing them out. 
What you have is good for now. Like the girls above said, your baby may be too big for the NB size so don't get many of those just yet.

Miranda was 8lbs at birth and we used tons of newborns, she's only been in size 1's about 3 weeks and she's 11 weeks old.
I would say a good variety to start is good but everyone was wrong when they said oh you won't need newborn diapers or clothes for long. She'll be 3 months soon and she's still fitting in 0-3 with no signs of growing out of them real soon.

when ryan was born I got a great deal on Huggies size 1-2 from a liquidator store near me (like $3 for a pack of 30). I swear I got like 15 packs. I used them all and eventually needed more.
FYI-It's TNT on Jericho turnpike. They come in the clear plastic instead of in the box. Now I think they are $4-$6 each. If you can stand going in the store, its a great deal.

I use 3 packs of 40 count each Swaddler Newborns when I brought Frankie home. Now after 3 weeks, he has finally moved into size 1 swaddlers.
I also had stocked up from hospital on any diapers I got my hands on to take home with me. The nurses were generous and gave me extra, along with formula even though I was breast feeding.

Sounds about right to me! Don't get too many because you have no idea what size your princess will be.. I went out and bought soooo many size 1's and Alex came out so small that we had to rush out and buy a whole bunch of newborn's. And, the hospital will probably let you steal some diapers so you'll be covered for a few days at least...
