does anyone sew their own drapes,pilllows etc..?

if so ..how did you learn? i want to take a class on that kind of stuff but cant find anywhere that does it?..i dont know how to read patterns. so that is out of the question..but any info would be appreciated! thanksChat Icon

I make pillow cases for my nephews all the time, lol...

I just measured a regular pillow case and figured in room for hems. They come out pretty good!

I figure drapes and pillows shouldn't be too far off from that.

Just start with some remnand fabric (it's cheap!!). Start with a square pillow. You can buy them. They are "insert" for pillow cases. You will find them at Joann Fabric, etc...

Start with a few pieces of fabric (scrap pieces) and practice to go straight.

Do you know how to actually sew?

I sew my own drapes and pillows, but my mom taught me.

I found a great Waverly design book. It has some more elaborate pillow patterns. I also "inspected" tab-top drapes I had and replicated them for a couple of kitchen windows... I made valences and cafe curtains to coordinate.

Experiment! Have fun!
