Any cake decorators out there? with pic
I'm trying to do this cake for ella's 1st birthday next week. Which tip would i need to do the frosting to look like this? What else do i need to buy once i figure out which tip...I see things called couplings listed with bags etc etc

Yep, a star tip, or even a triple star tip which covers more area (it's tip #2010). Michael's sells clear plastic frosting bags. Very easy to use and they're disposable. They come in like packs of 12 I think.
You need a coupler only if you want to change tips, which you won't need to do. So all you need is color for the frosting (Michael's has gel color that won't make the frosting thinner), the plastic frosting bags, and the star tip.
That cake looks like the giant cupcake mold from Michael's. I just saw it this past weekend. So cute!

I have this same pan that I plan to use for my dd's birthday. I have a silly question though, HOW do you cut this into slices?

I made this last week for a baby shower at work and used some frosting to stick the two pieces together and we just cut it like a normal cake - from the top to the bottom - just in thin slices and it stayed together perfectly much to my surprise!
I used a regular devils food box mix but made it using 1 cup milk, 1/3 cup butter and 4 eggs instead of the regular oil/water/egg ingredients. This made the cake a little more like a pound cake and kept the nice dimensions of the "cupcake"

this got posted somewhere on how to cut it.
As for cutting, wilton recommends that you remove the two parts of the cake and cut them separately, I don't like that answer. Visually it would destroy how cool the cake looks. So in October 06 we did a story called Be a Bake Sale Diva- we included a tip on how to cut a cake for a crowd-This will work on the cupcake cake. Cut a circle in the center of the cake, then cut the "ring" you've created into small slices. You end up with a nice square piece of cake that fits on a plate instead of the long wedge that crumbles before it makes it to any plate. The inner circle can be cut into wedges as well, We going to try and get a visual on the blog so you can see for yourself....
