NYC Teachers - ? re LICE!
So according to my principal, the chancellor's regulations this year, say that a student with lice cannot be sent home for having nits; they actually have to have the live bugs. This is making me furious! I have had a student in my class that has had nits since September. She spends a lot of time in a shelter, so I am assuming that is where she gets them. Mom supposedely uses the shampoo, but they always come back. I send her to the nurse periodically but it's ridiculous. I've called 311 to ask about this, and they've given me the run around.
Does anyone know anything about this - or has anyone had any similiar experience?

Yes I have heard this exact thing. You cannot send a child home with nits. If they break out into full lice you can. It is disgusting. I have not had any experience with it, but just say I did I would be hovering -not to closely- over the kid waiting for the eggs to hatch.
