Teaching Psych in High School
What type of certification would a district be looking for to fill a full time secondary psychology teaching position?
I am not certified for secondary but I have a BA in Psych and a Masters in Childhood Ed. I love Psychology and I would be the happiest person in the world if I could teach psychology.
What do you think they are looking for?

Re: Teaching Psych in High School
In my school, psych is offered through the social studies department, so I'd assume one would need SS certification? Not sure, though...

Re: Teaching Psych in High School
That was the same for the high school that I attended. However, this job opening is strictly for Psychology it does not state that they are responsible for teaching any other content area.

It's social studies cert, but most schools only offer a few sections of it. It's not always a full time psych position. It might be a few sections of psych with some gov't or something else is the social studies dept.

My school too.
ETA: I also agree with the poster who said that it would most likely be only a couple of sections of psych. and the rest history classes.

Re: Teaching Psych in High School
I taught psych and AP psych with a SS cert. But a science cert (not sure if it's any science cert or a specific one like bio?) can also teach AP at least (our science dept didn't want it)

Re: Teaching Psych in High School
Psych is part of the SS Dept in my school. We are pretty big and the class is popular, so we actually have 7 sections of AP Psych.
So, I guess it all depends!

Re: Teaching Psych in High School
it's usually through the social studies dept. but since you have a masters in Psych. and a teacher cert. in another area, they may be able to make an exception. however, it may not necessarily be a full-time job depending on how many sections of psych. they have.
