What were your symptoms? I'm just getting worried lately because I feel off when I eat too much sugar. I've always had to watch it b/c it goes too low sometimes (I get sweaty/shakey)...and lately I'm sooo thirsty. Its not in my family and I'm not over weight and I exercise regularly.

I had no idea - but after being diagnosed with it i did realize I was VERY thirsty....

If you go to your doctor on a regular basis for check ups they do check for this...

I was clueless!!

But when I look back, I was always really really thirsty...and noticed my eyesight was getting a little screwy sometimes...I thought i twas becuase I was looking at monitors all day--2 at work and one at home...

Also, I was not going to a doctor regularly, so I had never been checked for it...

I was very very tired, very thirsty and had to pee a lot. I got tested because I had gestational diabetes with my son. I was diagnosed when he was 22 monthsChat Icon

If you had to watch it because it would go too low, that is hypoglycemia.

Hypoglycemia preludes diabetes sometimes. You should go get it checked!

I had no idea either - Looking back though, I realize I was always thirsty and had to pee alot.

Get checked - If you have it - you want to treat it asap to get under control and avoid any complications. I wish I had known - I have minor eye problems b/c of it that may have been avoided.

Statistically, you're more *likely* to get it if you are a female, over a certain age, overweight, and it runs in your family. However, as all of us who don't fit into those categories knows (I don't fit ANY of the stereotypes), it doesn't mean you can't get it.

Besides the thirst and eye blurriness, do you crave sugar? It seems ironic, but even though your blood is turning to sludge from the massive amounts of sugar in it (I'm exaggerating a bit... Chat Icon Chat Icon ), your body isn't absorbing any of it, so you feel like you always need more sugar.

I get light-headed when my levels are too high, and a get a queasy type of feeling. Much different than when it's too low.

Definitely get tested.... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh crap.

I'm starting to get nervous -- b/c I have some of these symptoms. Chat Icon I'm not normally a hypochondriac, but this is a little too weird.

Yikes, I need to go to the doc soon...

ETA -- It's been on my mind b/c my MIL was recently diagnosed.

It's very hard to tell. I was tested for Insulin Resistance (related to a different medical condition), which I tested positive for. I'm actually on Metformin, which is an insulin sensitizing drug.

The strange thing is though, after being on the Met. for about 3 monts, I still get many of the same symptoms--thirst, shakiness, queasiness, etc.

Go for a glucose tolerance test, that's the only way to know for sure. Chat Icon
