ordering greek takeout (while on WW)

how would I order a greek chicken souvlaki to be as WW Friendly as possible? (no pita, to start, huh?) Chat Icon

it comes with a greek salad (yumm, real feta cheese Chat Icon) greek salad dressing, tsatsiki sauce, etc.

or do I allow myself to enjoy?

maybe substitute rice for the pita? Chat Icon

ideas ? Chat Icon

im on core, not points...

Hmmmmm that is tough. I would have the chicken souvlaki and ask for the dressing, cheese and yogurt on the side. Then I would count the number of Tbsps of cheese and dressings.

Unless you have extra flex points I would skip the pita (they always cook them with oil and it's extra points then you would think) and any rice. I am sure the salad and the chicken will be filling enough.

Last week I had turkish food Chat Icon Don't tell anyone! Chat Icon I had the lamb shish kebob. It came with grilled peppers which I ate and I had a choice of bulgur which is core, but certainly not how they made it. I also had a choice of soup or salad, so I had the chicken soup which I counted as core, a few pieces of lamb and peppers and I counted the bulgur and yogurt I ate.

HTH!

Cuisine of the Day: Greek
Article By: Leslie Fink, MS, RD Print Email

Greek food, often dubbed Mediterranean cuisine, is touted for its use of healthy, unsaturated fats, but that doesn't mean you can eat all you want. Even olive oil (POINTS® value of 1 per teaspoon, like all other oils) is best used in moderation.

Look out for POINTS-value-packed dishes like moussaka (eggplant and ground beef or lamb with Bechamel sauce) and pastitsio (pasta and ground beef or lamb with Bechamel sauce), which are both smothered in cheese. Less fatty options include fish, chicken and vegetable kebabs, as well as tomato-based entrées.

Other good bets include Greek salad (just ask for the dressing on the side), which often contains just a small amount of feta. Pair it up with a piece of pita and Oooopa, you've got a complete meal.

Wise Choices POINTS Value
Pita bread, 1 small 2
Olives, 10 small 1
Yogurt and cucumber salad, 1/2 cup 1
Greek salad, without dressing, 3 cups 2
Baba ghanoush, 1/4 cup 3
Dolma (stuffed grape leaves), 4 pieces 4
Souvlaki sandwich, 1 8
Souvlaki, 1 large or 2 small skewer(s) 8

Not-So-Wise Choices POINTS Value
Saganaki (cheese appetizer), 1 piece 6
Moussaka, 1 piece 12
Falafel in pita 10
Pastitsio, 1 piece 13
Gyro, 1 15

I always get greek..its one of my staples actually. LOL

I either order the greek salad with grilled chicken..they use oil and vinegar, so how bad can it be? Hardly any feta and filled with peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.

I also get the chicken souvlaki plate. Instead of using the sauce though, I put tons of lemon on the chicken. I allow myself, one pita. They dont cook it in anything, just heat it on the grill so I am sure thats not too bad either. I even eat one lemon potato (half of a potato)..better than the french fries! I have been eating this like twice a week and have been fine. I LOVE greek food!
