cancun
i am going to go on vacation with friends that have cancun stuck in their heads. they keep coming up w/ all inclusive resorts that are about $1600 per couple - i have terrible feeling these will be roach motels or something once we are down there.
has anyone gone on an all inclusive trip to cancun? if so - where did you stay?

We stayed at the Riu Caribe which was pretty nice.
We went back the following year and stayed at the Marriott CasaMagna (which wasn't all inclusive) which we enjoyed a bit more though.

We stayed at the Omni as all-inclusive vacation club guests...we liked it a lot, but we received a lot of extras because of the vacation club (excursions, activities)

my dh and i went with friends to cancun and spent about what your friends are looking to spend. this was 4 years ago, but our hotel was the costa real. the room was very nice, simple and clean, we had a view of the water, the place only had two restaurants, the beach was small, and it was all inclusive, but we honestly had a great time. we were there for 7 days. we were glad we spent so little on the hotel at the time because we did a few excursions and wanted to eat out at places like margaritaville, so we didn't feel guilty not having our all inclusive meals a few times.
check tripadvisor. we were really happy with cancun and costa real, but we got burned on a trip to st. lucia, we made the best of it, but would not visit that hotel again, we should have listened to the trip advisor reviews!

Maybe you can find a deal at one of the Palace Resorts.
They tend to have lots of restaurants to choose from so you feel you are getting your money's worth.

we're staying at sun palace all inclusive adults only for 4 nights 5 days with flights and insurance for about $1000/person

I stayed at the Costa Real the first time I went to Cancun. I really liked it. The beach is smaller but it's tucked out of the way from the ocean front so you don't have the big waves. You can wade in the water without getting knocked over.
We didn't do all inclusive but we ate at the hotel a few times and it was pretty good. That was 7 years ago, though.
