nyc teachers that have ever lost a check, please help

I stupidly lost my per session check that just came. I now have to wait until monday to call and have the payment stopped. Has this ever happened to anyone and did they ever recover the money? I am so annoyed and so scared that i am not going to see the money again.

Ok..here it goes~

You have to put a stop payment on it and then sign an affidavit claiming forgery in the event that the "lost" check was cashed. The request for a stop payment needs to be submitted by your payroll secretary to the DOE Payroll Office. The city issues replacement checks when the lost investigation is complete.
This may take 6 to 8 weeks.
Emergency checks cannot be issued to employees in the interim.
