Getting results over the phone
Is there anything wrong with that? One of my co-workers said that my doctor shouldn't have given me any results over the phone, even when she called me originally about my blood tests and now with the preliminary results of my amnio.
First of all when she called about the blood tests DH and I went there and discussed the results. Now about the preliminary amnio results, what is there to discuss in person? am I missing something here?
She told me that I should go to another doctor.

Re: Getting results over the phone
I think that if the doctor wanted to see you in person to explain the results to you - they would call you and tell you to come in - but lots of times doctors/nurses will give you the results over the phone if everything is okay - like in your case. I would think if it was something more extensive or if the doctor wanted to converse with you and your DH about other options - the doctor would ask you to come in.
I've gotten all my results from tests over the phone - if you feel uncomfortable about anything - please give your doctor / OBGYN office a call - i know they are usually always so helpful to answer any of your questions and your doctor can call you back to assure that everything is okay.
People always have something to say - go with your instinct.

Re: Getting results over the phone
Thank you sweetie. I was starting to think that it was not a normal thing to get results over the phone.
When the doctor called about my blood work and told me that it showed high levels and that I may need an amnio, she never told me to come in and discuss it. DH and I went to her and she took the time in between seeing patients and sat down to talk to us. That's what doctors are there for to answer your questions.

Re: Getting results over the phone
I don't think there is anything wrong with getting the preliminary test results over the phone -- as long as they're good. If they weren't good, I feel they should have you come in to explain in person different options available to you.
My ob/gyn's office was always busy because they spend quality time with every patient. I would find it very annoying to take off from work to go see the doctor & get every test result back.
If you prefer that he see you for getting test results, I would ask - but I don't think you should switch doctors over this.

Re: Getting results over the phone
I agree with you all. If things are okay then I don't see anything wrong with getting results over the phone. I would like to think that every doctor would want you to come in if test results need to be discussed. But if things are okay then why do you have to go in in person to hear again what you already heard on the phone.
