Has anyone flown out of Whitle Plains Airport?

How is security there? Meaning, how long do you think it would take to clear security there? DD & I are leaving for Disney tomorrow, and I want to know when to leave the house. I have never flown out of there before. TIA!

Thanks!
I have flown out of Newark, JFK, and Laguardia
I was hoping it was easier than the bigger ones.

WAY easier. It is really small and barely a line! Only one line to get in too- no problems except that sometimes they do run a little late since there is only one terminal

OK, so for a 10:30AM flight when would you leave? We live about 45 minutes away w/o traffic. I am thinking around 8AM??? Chat Icon

What are your thoughts?

I live near there & have flown out of that airport a few times.

At that time the traffic will be more of an issue that the airport. I dont' know too muc h abotu the traffic from your area, but you could proabaly leave at 8:30.

Are you parking or taking a car service? Parking can be difficult, b/c it is small, and gaining in popularity.

In the morning it usually only takes me about 15 mintues to check in at one of the self serve machines, and then go through security.

(Once around 5pm, there was a line, and I had to cut ahead to not miss my flight. Chat Icon )

What saves the most time is that everything is all right there, so there isn't a lot of walking.

When you go through security, there is nothing on the other side except a bathroom & the gates. So, if you are early, don't go thought security right away ( which is what I usually do in larger airports) if you think you may need a snak or beverage first.

There is a news stand in the check in area & you can go upstaris to the coffee shop. You can also also look out at all the planes from there if you have time to kill.

The waiting area gets a little crowded, b/c thre are only about 3 gates. It's all one terminal. You don't usually board too early, other planes need the gates & the planes are usually small, so boarding doesn't take long.

If it is a regional jet (which is what I've always taken except the first time), there most likely won't be a jet bridge & you just walk outside. The may take your carry-on from you if it is too big & check it right there, so bring essentials in a small bag. If they do check it, you can get it when you get off the plane, you don't have to go to the baggage carousel.

Have a great trip!

WOW! Thank you! We live in Monroe, OCNY so we are 45 northwest of White Plains. I know traffic on the thruway and 287 are going to be difficult.

Plus, I am traveling w/a toddler. I will have two small carry ons, a stroller I am checking at the gate and two checked bags. Do you think they will let me take my stroller to the gate and then check it? Thank you for the heads up on going through security. I want DD to walk around a bit before we get on the plane. I am thinking that waiting to go through security, get a cup of coffee, and walk around up there is the best bet?

Yes, check on the security line when you get there & unless you were stuck in traffic forever or the security line s is out the door, take your daughter upstairs. If you are too early she'll go nuts in the waiting area. There isn't too much room to walk around.

I'm pretty sure you can take your stroller to the gate. I have taken a bag that is carry -on size for bigger jets, and at the gate they told me it was too big for the little plane so they took it & put a sticker on it & I picked it up on the way off the plane. That's probably what they do for strollers.

Most people I've encountered who work there ar every nice. I think they are less stressed out working at a smaller aiport the way I am travelling through one!

ETA-I'm sure you've mapped it, but the airport is sort of out the eastern outskirts of White Plains, so it will take a little longer than if you were going to downtown, but it's easy to get to from 287. (Well, except that you have to be on 287!

I live in White Plains and flying out of Westchester is a breeze! You will be able to bring the stroller outside to the plane and they will check it right there. You'll get it back as soon as you deboard. Getting through security won't take you more than 5 minutes- 10 if it's super crowded.
