TEAM JACKSON RILEY!!!!!
On May 18th, 2008, Rich and I will be joining our friends William and Lindsey and their family in walking for their son at the American Liver Foundation's Annual "Liver Walk".
An excerpt from William and Lindsey's letter: "Biliary Atresia is a non-genetic anomaly where the biliary tree inside and outside the liver is lacking or non-functional. This, in many cases, leads to liver failure. There is no known cause or cure for this disease, and very few infants born with BA survive without a liver transplant. As his mother, I felt called to give him another change at a full life. I [Lindsey] donated a portion of my liver on October 6, 2006, but the transplant was not enough. Biliary Atresia had weakened his body so badly that his new liver could not help him.
Jackson Riley passed away November 11, 2006 in his mother's arms.
.....
There is not enough known about this disease, and now it is our turn to make a difference. Each individual team member will be raising money for BA research. We will then combine our donations as a team, and contribute them to the ALF."
Along with a team of 30 friends and family members, they raised over $13,000 last year. This year's goal is $15,000.
