Activities for Guided Reading

I teach first grade and am trying to figure out what other types of activities I can do with them after we have read the book. I don't want it to be too long, since their attention span is short. But, I'm getting tired of the same old things we do. Any ideas?

Re: Activities for Guided Reading

i teach 1st grade and usually make up comprehension questions after the stories, also summaries, character traits, problem/solution...

sometimes i want to switch it up too. im going to get some of my guided reading books that are plays and then have the students act it out...and make puppets.

I also use character response and graphic organizers that match the skill of the week.

I was just going to suggest the same thing! I just got off guided reading a few minutes ago and now I am assembling the books. I love that the kids can keep the books too so they can read them at home. (I like to think it anyway.)
