Temporary fillings after a root canal..before the crown
How long do they typically last?
I am going to Hawaii on Saturday and I just got the approval for the final part of the procedure....I would say this temp filling has been in there for maybe 5-6 months...I hope its ok. I dont want to have to find a dentist in Hawaii!

sadly I've had a temporary filling for years. I think you should be okay.

Wow, I'm surprised you had it in this long. My temps have only ever been in until I got my permanent in, like 2 weeks later. Until then, I never chewed on that side!!

I think that's about how long mine has lasted. But my dentist told me that it wasn't temporary in the sense that it wouldn't last, it was temporary as in not his best work but it visually would do for the time being so he had time to have what he need made.

You should If anything pack some fixadent just in case.
Do not stick fixodent into your root canal access. There is some temporary filling material you can sometimes find over-the-counter at places like Walgreen's and CVS. Fixodent will not work for this at all, it's a glue-y like substance to keep dentures in place. Your temp should be fine, just keep very sticky or very hard substances away from it. I also can't encourage you enough to get the rest of your treatment finished. You risk fracturing and loosing the tooth. Teeth that have had root canal treatment get very brittle and really need crowned to protect them from fracturing.
And so ends the dental lecture portion of our afternoon...

I've had mine for 7 years.....
After a botched root canal, I was terrified to go back--my plan was to go back this summer, and I hope I can get there now that I'm pregnant...
