I don't disagree with you on that---but i think this was more for the whole "yankees-red sox rivalry" more than anything---and when there are rivalries...the teams are always looking for a way to get at the other not just on the field---but off...especially with the fans.

i agree as to why it was done.
I think the reaction and stock people take it in it is silly
and i was not the water boy nor the manager - i actually did play, and I still contend, leave the superstitions alone. Play the games - the better team wins

Its hard to understand if your not a Yankee fan but its almost like disrespectful in a way. There is no bigger bitter rivalry than between the Yankees and Red Sox and yes we love to get under each others skin. So someone did that to make Yankees fans/players mad and it worked. It seems silly but it just adds to the war you know lol.

I think its all kinda silly too, but its part of the game.
I do find it amusing they are considering pressing charges against the guy who put it there. What would the charges be? Attempting to place a curse on the Yankees? Whats the punishment? Public humiliation? Buring at the stake?

As a huge Yankees fan, I'm glad they dug it up. And if the guy who planted it there was serious about putting a curse on the Yanks, he should have kept his mouth shut.
Kind of ironic that it was Ortiz's jersey and its Ortiz that can't get the bat going for Boston.......

It might be "just a jersey" but we all know how superstitious athletes and sports fans can be.
Yes, I worked with Athletes and you should see how crazy they get.
That being said, if someone planted a shirt for bad luck it's not sport. It's mean spirited and spikeful.
So in essence ITA on legal actions against the person who planted it.

considering that the sox won the championship in 04 and 07, i don't think they're losing sleep over losing games in april

I'm in the Bronx for game 1 and 2. Can't wait!
When I saw it was an Ortiz jersey pulled from the rubble, I said to DH, "oh that's what he needs to start hitting again." And just like that, he had his first hit in EONS that night!
As long as he remains in a slump to Yankee pitching, it's all good.

Once it became public the Yankees had to remove it. Personally I have no problem with them doing it. They have the money to spend and they put people to work by doing this. Plus they are auctioning it off and donating the money to charity. What's the big deal? How would the Mets fans feel if they find out that a Yankees jersey or a Braves jersey was buried in their new stadium. You would be pi$$ed also. You'll say now that it wouldn't bother you but if it happened to your team I guarantee you that you would want that jersey out.

But me personally? I'd be flattered that some azzclown took the time and effort to plant the jersey there.

But me? I'd want them to keep it there as motivation to kick the snot out of that team. If we're truly the better team, we'll do it. And if we're not, then we're not.
And if we do come out on top and win a championship - you dig it up, put it on the float and march with it in the parade
I understand superstition and sports. it's an age-old thing. But this Yankee-Red Sox mind game thing is getting out of hand.
First we had this silly idea that the spirit of Babe Ruth could curse the Sox.
Now we believe that a buried jersey can curse the efforts of a team...
It's simple - if you're the better team, you'll win - when it counts.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. These are the same fans that blamed the loss in the ALDS on the bugs in Cleveland . You have enough money to waste a day digging up a jersey, but you can't afford a can of OFF in the dugout?
