Hi & Question

Hi, I've never posted on ths board, but I've lurked. Anyway, I'm in school now to become a teacher and right now I'm working on a literacy lesson plan for 3rd grade. My question is, is acrostic poetry appropriate for this age? I picked up a book Amazing Apples, which I was going to read to the class and then have them write their own acrostic poem about something they enjoy. I wrote a sample for garden using alliteration also:

Growing fragrant flowers
As sun shines
Rose buds bloom
Dazzling stirred senses
Eventually night nears
Now work waits

I'm not sure if this is age appropriate, can someone give me some guidance?

TIA,
Kelly

Re: Hi & Question

Definetely appropriate for this age.....just have them do the acrostic not the alliteration though (not sure if you were planning on that too) I usually have them do an acrostic with their names. Did it in 3rd and again now in 4th...Had them do First and Last names...they LOVE IT!

Re: Hi & Question

very appropriate, the alliteration might be too much for them at first

I agree. I did brainstorming a list of spring words when I did 3rd. They chose one like SPRING, FLOWERS, SUNSHINE etc.
