severe sore throat- not strep
anyone have a severe sore throat that wasnt strep, I went to the dr and they tested for strep, they said no strep but lots of post nasal drip. While Im glad its not strep my throat hurts so badly and is not getting better, nothing soothes it not tylenol, advil, gargling losenges, throat sprays, tea. I have tried it all. I cannot sleep, Im in agony . Anyone have any suggestions? Im starting to go crazy, I can barely swallow and it feels like I have been kniffed in the throat.

I did. They thought strep too but it wasn't. It was mono. I had a severe case which lasted 2 months. If it persists I would have them do blood work
feel better soon

Re: severe sore throat- not strep
clear up your post nasal drip - that's probably what's causing it. use a neti pot or at least take something that'll dry up your sinuses.

Re: severe sore throat- not strep
I have had throat infections that were not strep, but still required antibiotics. In fact, one time I had a staph infection in my throat. If it is that painful and you are feeling sick, demand a throat culture and not just a strep test.
ETA: Feel better soon!!!!

Last time I had one like that it was pharyngitis.
Gargle w/ salt water (keep doing it, it does help), keep it moist, drink plenty of fluids...espcially if you have post nasal drip since the increased hydration will thin out the mucus.
