Re: to be a teacher....

I am pretty sure that most programs require a HS diploma. To be a teacher in NYS you need to get a bachelor's degree and a master's degree within your first 5 years of getting a teaching job. You may be able to do some of the coursework online but you are going to need to have a 'face-to-face' class when student-teaching. As a teacher, I don't think that an online program for a beginning teacher is a good idea. So much of learning how to teach is learning from others through discussion and observations. HTH

Re: to be a teacher....

You need to have a HS diploma from my understanding.. Also, you need to attend a NYS accredited college for teaching. Many online colleges are not accredited. A teaching candidate must student teach as well, something that online courses do not offer.

Best bet would be to do all courses in a college setting. Many districts do not appreciate online college courses.

She should check the NYS DOE website. The qualifications to be a teacher have changed greatly and they continue to do so. It is really tough. Good luck to her!

Re: to be a teacher....

she can work in a nurseryt or daycare center with a high school diploma, but to teach in a public school, she MUST have a bachelor's degree and state teaching certification. i doubt this is available on-line as it's a 4 year program as well as observations, work ing with students in sschools and student teaching. NYS also requires teachers to get a MAsters degree within 5 years of initial certification.
