New job - proving yourself
Don't get me wrong, compared to the last 2 hell on earth jobs I had, this one is a dream! But the girl I replaced was there for 7 years (right out of college and started out as an HR Asst and got promoted up to what I am now). I constantly feel like my boss is comparing me to her and obviously, she grew into her role. She learned company policies and procedures as she went. My boss is always saying "Well "Jane" did it this way and she always did this etc"...I think there is a bit of a learning curve with me and I'm having trouble with some things. I'm due to have my performance eval soon and I'm wondering if I should talk to my boss before my eval...for ex. I'm in HR and I obv. know how to do things - but I mess up sometimes on how to do it the Company way - hence the learning curve. I ask lots of questions and all but sometimes there are little things. I really like it there....do you think I should approach my boss and be open about how I feel? Not saying why do you compare me to Jane, obv. but just being open about how I like it there and I am trying hard but I want to make sure I do things the right way...or should I wait for my eval? Today wasn't good...I just got back from a 1 week vaca. and my boss was all over me on a few things - she didnt like the way I did a few things when she covered for me while I was out. HELP! I think a lot of it has to do with my lack of confidence and how beaten up and put down I got at my last 2 jobs (which were both dysfunctional).
