Healthy Shopping List

I'm going to go to the grocery store later, and am starting a diet. Give me your favorite healthy snacks, meals, etc.

Please give me some good ideas to things to stock up on?

TIA!

Re: Healthy Shopping List

eggs (to make hard boiled)
container of egg whites for omelets
hummus & veggies (celery, carrots, zucchini, peppers, cucumber)
reduced fat cheese sticks
yogurt
cottage cheese
salad fixings (lettuce, spinach, cuc's, tomato, avocado, peppers, celery)
brown rice
sweet potatoes
beans (chick peas make a nice side salad with diced red onion & cucumber, olive oil & balsamic)
chicken
fish
whole wheat bread
peanut butter (put on apples or bananas or toast)
fruits (apples, banana, berries are great for you, oranges, grapefruit)
applesauce (unsweetened but add cinnamon)
plain oatmeal (you can add applesauce to sweeten)
rice cakes (come in all kinds of yummy flavors)
turkey or chicken cold cuts for a sandwich
canned tuna

Good luck and happy shopping! Let us know how you do!!

ETA: I forgot to add some sweets so you aren't feeling deprived. Sugar free jello or pudding and no sugar added fudgesickles really come in handy. 100 calorie packs aren't bad either if you need something like a cookie.

Re: Healthy Shopping List

Greek yogurt (preferably 0% fat)
Apple Butter
Almonds (no salt)

Read some labels if you have time and compare.....you want a lot of protein and/or fiber -- anything more than 5g is sufficient.....

Try to avoid cheeses, sour cream, red meat (or limit 1x a week) if possible.

ETA: Try to load up on tons of beans. Goya has many varieties. If they have low sodium great, if not, just rinse off in a strainer to get the excess salt out. They are great for anything. To add to salads......or as a side dish mixed with other high protein foods..........:) They ARE filling.
