Those going to Shea Stadium this season...
I surprised DH with tickets last night for a Saturday night game (7:10pm) in June.
So, what would be better - take the train in, or drive? Also, how early should we get there?
I'm a first timer going to Shea, and DH hasn't been since he in middle school, so we need some guidance.

since its a Sat night ... i would definitely take the train.. if it was a weekday game i would say you might be able to get by with driving... the parking is just horrible now because of the new stadium being built.
if you do take the train.. you can arrive there maybe an hour before the game.. walk around a little.. check out the new stadium being built!

We went to a game last year and drove in. It was fine but the traffic getting out of there is a nightmare. We'll be going again this year and decided to take the train.
Hope you guys have a great time!!

I used to work at Shea. Ugh! The parking is horrible! If you get there 3 hours before game time you can drive and there will be parking available, plus you can watch batting practice! Gate C opens at 4:30PM!
If you plan on getting there closer to game time like an hour then I'd suggest you DON'T drive because there will be limited to no parking available! Taking the train will be your best bet.

Ok, so I shared everything with DH, and what train(s) do we need to take to get there? I'm not from Long Island and all I know is the LIRR.

what train stations are closest to you?? a lot of them dont go directly into shea , you have to transfer at Woodside..
this is what we do... not sure if you are familiar with Bayside, Queens.. but DH and I drive there..(parking is really not that bad) then take the train straight to Shea.. its only like 2 stops or something like that.
