Teaching with morning sickness
Hi ladies, I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant, and MS has officially joined the game.
I was so off my game today--I could hardly concentrate. I have zero energy, and the kids were on my last nerve by 7:45 this morning (we begin at 7:15).
How do teachers do this for weeks on end? I feel like my kids have got to already be seeing a difference in my attitude, and I feel awful about it.

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
I have never taught with MS, but my good friend next door did. She kept lots of small snacks with her..things that kept her stomach calm. She also relied on room neighbors to help her if she needed to run out. Also, she let her kids know she was not feeling the love certain days, and they were so cute and helpful.
I hope it will pass quickly for you!! Just take it slow...remember that Memorial Day is approaching!

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
I had severe MS (if you want to call it that since it was around the clock) for 9 months- yes months! I teach kinder and it was complete he ll! I tried to sit as much as possible, take many breaks (I had a really understanding principal who would stop in to give me breaks or send people for me). I kept those preggie pops around, pretzels etc but nothing helped me. I kept a bucket under my desk if I just couldnt wait fo rhelp (thank god I never needed that!) and was put on bed rest for 3 1/2 weeks thankfully! I used a ton of sick time too when I just couldn't make it out of bed. My case was severe and was hospitalized many times throughout. I hope your MS ends soon! It su ck s but is do able. GL!

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
I had the worst morning sickness. I teach HS and it always hit during 1st period. Luckily I had a friend who had off that period so I would call her to cover my class so I could run to the bathroom. My personality totally changed towards my class during that time period so I totally understand how you feel. Hopefully it will be over soon! Have you tried the preggo pops? That seemed to help me a little bit along with tea.

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
I teach 2nd Grade. My morning sickness began on the first day of school and lasted until Christmas and it was more than just the morning. Luckily my classroom is right next to the faculty room, I had an aide and a very understanding principal so when I needed to leave for a few minutes I did. During my preps I'd run to McDonald's for a chocolate shake. That was the ONLY thing that helped. Good luck...you'll make it through!

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
I had horrible m/s my first trimester...I threw up almost everymorning and night. I used to keep a puke pail with me in the car too. def eat something in the morning, it helps...and keep lots of snacks handy. On my worst days I would run out my back door to breathe in the cold air..would get my co teacher so nervous, lol. Cinnimon gum would help ease some of the nausea, but truely nothing helped until I got meds from the Dr....they were my lifesaver...I came into work a different person!

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
I got preg in Oct and for those first few months my students must have thought I loved pretzels
I munched either pretzels or salt bagels all day and miraculously never got sick in front of my class! I was definately queesy and had a tough time on the bus part of our field trip. That was tough because I was sitting wit my chairperson and he didn't know yet!
Try to keep water handy as well as snacks. Good luck

pretzels, saltines and water. i never would have made it through without them. Keep a stash in your desk and munch away when you need to.

Unfortunately, this hasn't been working for me. It literally just gives me something TO throw up when I finally get out of bed.
I'm taking Zofran now, and it has helped SOME, but by mid-day I'm back to my old nauseous self again. I would literally pay money to have this year be over, because I don't know how much longer I can handle this!!!!

Re: Teaching with morning sickness
Try to keep lots of snacks with you and lots of fluids. Hang in there. I know the feeling. I dreaded getting up every morning when I was sick. It was a battle walking through those doors each morning and putting on a happy face
