HR peeps: what is...
"strategic hiring"
I interviewed at my old company for a staff position directly with the person that would be my boss, during the interview he mentioned that he had an HR meeting on Thursday because the position was classified a "strategic hire" and that I would have to go back potentially
just curious to what this actually means. . .

Same here...that's how I would take it. To me, strategic hire, would mean that the position aligns with the strategic agenda/plan of the department or company. So I say key position as well.

let me add that most of this company is hired internal and within the ranks...but this job was posted and reposted everywhere for the past two weeks...
I have a high level rec, so I am hoping that gives me an advantage over the what I am sure are hundreds and hundreds of applicants.

Yeah...sounds like it is very specific to some strategic plan and they need specific experience or at least have specific expectations. Usually that is something that requires going outside of the company - looking for experience or education that they can't find in house.

Something that's brought in as a change agent or a short-term role. Not that the person would be short term, but that the assignment would be.

hmmm, this is a staff, long-term position.
I am so confused. Also, production staff position are ridiculously hard to come by.
