My mother read to me a lot as a kid but didn't read much herself. I don't think I've ever seen her go past chapter 3 on anything. I read constantly, but neither of my siblings do.

Whenever my family gets together it's like a giant book swap - everyone brings their favorites and we all share.

my parent read but are not the biggest readers - tend to read more on vactation
I was not a big reader until i got into high school - i actually really strarted reading because of my freshman and sophmore summer reading turned me onto some good books
now i read about 5 books a month - my brother is worse than me and goes through a book about every 2 days

Yes...my mom is a big reader...she read alot so she could improve her english (she was born in Italy and came here when she was in her 20's)...I LOVE reading...books, magazines, newspapers...whatever...if it interests me - I read it

Both of my parents were huge readers. And they passed it down to me & my brother. Now DS loves to read as well..

I'm a huge reader, both my parents were educators so there was a great emphasis on reading and education.
DH is not a reader and can't spell for anything. his parents read fiction now, but when he was growing up they didn't.

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's response to this thread. I think it's great that there are so many avid readers on LIF.
Two of my favorite places to go are a book store and the library.

My parents both enjoy reading. Their house has lots of bookcases filled with different kinds of books and magazines. Mom will read just about anything. Dad likes to read only things that interest him. I once got him a book of biographies of famous jazz musicians and he walked around the house reading it
I spent five yeas working for a major book publisher and now I am pursuing a library science degree so I am a big reader. I have been reading to DD since she before she was born and now at 14 months old she loves to sit and "read" her board books.

My dad is a big reader of history/philosophy books.
Me and my brother read anything fiction and always traded books with each other when we both lived at home.
My mother reads the occasional magazine and that's it. I can't remember the last time she read a book.
I definitely inherit my love of reading from my dad.

My dad is an avid reader and I know that having the books around and observing his interest in books definately instilled the love of reading i possess
Kids learn what they see...so i have my son observe me reading also

i love reading and my parents were always reading my mom read to me and my dad still always has a book in his car so he can read it while waiting for my mom (she doesn't drive so he carts her around)

Both of my parents were big readers.
But it was grandmother who read to me every night in her bed (she lived with us).
Most of my brothers and sisters are big readers - except 2 (there are 6 of us).
