Re: LI Teachers who teach in nyc...

Used to live in Baldwin and taught in Broolyn Heights. Commute took about an hour and 15 minutes. 5-10 minute ride to train station and parking, 40 minute LIRR ride to Flatbush Avenue, then about 15-20 minute subway ride and walk to my school.

DH and I are now in Franklin Square and he teaches in Queens. His commute is about 40 minutes from getting to the train, LIRR to Jamaica and then a 2-stop subway ride to his school.

Re: LI Teachers who teach in nyc...

I take a ronkonkoma branch express train so in the morning the drive to the train station is 10 minutes, train ride is an hour but then I have to walk and take the subway so total: 1hr 45 minutes....on the way home there isn't an express train so from door to door about 2 1/2 hours for the grand total of way too long! Honestly though I am totally used to it so it really isn't a big deal.

I live in Baldwin and commute to Elmhurst. Depending on what time I leave it usually takes about 45-60 minutes.

But as soon as there are any raindrops, tack on another 15-20 minutes.

Re: LI Teachers who teach in nyc...

Luckily, I have a carpool 4 days a week, so we hop in the HOV lane and it's about 30-35 minutes each way from Syosset (the carpool) to northern queens...not bad...

I currently work in SI and just moved to Nesconset. It takes me about 2 hours in the morning and 2 1/2 to 3 in the afternoon. I am desperately searching for a job that is closer!
