Need advice ... English Teachers

Hi Everyone!

I want to extend my certification to teach students with disabilities 7-12. I have to pick a concentration. I already have a concentration in social studies but I have heard passing the social studies CST is a nightmare. Plus, I only teach world history right now so I would really need to brush up on everything else. However, I've always been good in English and Im interested in pursuing that.

** So, my question is - if I register for the English CST - do you think I could do pretty well without having taught high school English? I'm good at analyzing literature and things like that. I want to register for the one coming up in three weeks. Let me know your thoughts! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I currently have my special ed and childhood ed 1-6 license and I teach all subjects in an inclusive setting.

Personally out of all the state tests that I had to take I thought the English CST was the hardest. You could take it and see what happens. Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: Need advice ... English Teachers

my husband passed all the CST's he needed for teaching fellows before he even took an education class or starting teaching... and he passeed fairly well.

he took the multi-subject CST, and the social studies CST. he did better on the social studies test actually, but he has a law degree, so that was a no-brainer.

to get certified in students with disabilities you also need the special ed. CST. i would take the one (social studies) if that's what you want.. worse case is you fail it and you can always take it over.
