When speaking to your principal

do you ALWAYS call him or her Dr. or Mr/Mrs XXXXX or do you sometimes call him or her by their name? I'm not talking about when in front of kids or parents, but casual.

I actually call my principals and APs by their first names. I didn't at first, until I felt them out and realized that they were ok with it.

it depends on the situation...sometimes i feel first name, sometimes i feel full name..i try and feel out their mood..

i feel weird calling them by their first name

I think I have called my principal by her first name like twice...I call her Ms XYZ and she does the same to me

Always first names for everyone -- only last names when referring to them when talking to the kids.

Our principal we call Dr. XXX but the AP's we call buy their first name unless kids are around.

my prinicipal always Mrs. XXX. My 2 APs always their first name, we are close.

I call my principal, APs and director all by their first name as long as there aren't kids around.

I always call my principal and ap by their first names except in front of parents or students. All the teachers in my school do.
I will say, though, I think it depends on the climate the principal sets. I have had other principals that I NEVER called by their first names. They didn't encourage it and I didn't feel comfortable doing it.

I try not to call her anything! I'm always unsure. I hear some faculty call her by her first name and others by Mrs W....so I just say hi and start to talk.

I have always used first names with AP and principal. We are like a school family and so it makes sense that we would all call each other by our first names. I know that I am very lucky!

Mr. XXXXXX. Same for my AP.

The AP of my dept won't allow any of us to call him by his first name. One time a teacher in my dept did, and he said "I'm Mr. XXXXXX to you." I guess only those he considers his "equals" can call him by his first name

As for the principal, he gives off a really formal vibe & always calls everyone by their last name so I do the same to him. I think only the very senior teachers who've known him forever actually call him by his first name.

At my old school I called the principal by his last name. My new school is much more laid back, so I call the principal and AP by their first names.

first name basis. we are all adults and colleagues and to speak to a principal as if she's your elder is a little ridiculous IMO. but some admins have a power trip problem...
