My birth story: 5/2/08
Alexandra Laura was born on 5.2.08 at 11:38 pm. She was 8lbs 2oz and 21 inches long.
Here's my story:
Friday was my last day of work. i woke up feeling completely normal. i went to work and around 10am started to have what felt like some light period cramps. I also had a terrible backache. The cramps and backache became a lot worse around lunch and i decided it was best to leave work early. i noticed the cramping coming and going and when i got home i called the doctor and they said to come in to get checked out. my mom drove me to the office. I had already called DH and told him not to leave work because it might be a false alarm. At the doctors they put me on the machine to see if the cramping was contractions and it certainly was! however they were far apart with no pattern. My doctor suggested going home and waiting for them to take on a pattern. she also said they sometimes stop completely. I went home and started timing them with my mom and eventually DH who had left work. Once they got to what i thought was "bad" we left for the hospital. I was admitted and the contractions were still according to the nurse not too big....however they felt awful. Alittle while later the doctor came in and broke my water...i was only 3 cm at this point and was already in a lot of pain and wanting an epidural. She said i could get the epidural in 40 minutes...well and hour and a half later i was having the most painful contractions every 2 minutes and littles ones in between (so no break from the pain) finally when they came in for me to get the epidural i was fully dialated (3 cm to 10 in 1 1/2hrs) and ready to push. they suggested i just push but i was in too much pain. i got the epidural and 1 hr later my beautiful girl arrived in the world. She was 10 days early and i fell in love immediately.
Overall i had a good birth but it would have been so much better had i gotten the epidural earlier. i basically went through all of labor without one. however, it was all worth it

Thanks for sharing! As I am going into my 9th month now I am facinated by the birth stories and can't wait to write my own soon. Thanks again for sharing and congratulations on the recent birth of your daughter...
PS we picked Alexandra too!

Congrats! I admire your pain tolerance! I could barely survive 4-5 cm without an epidural!
