Re: Listing tutoring on your resume

not sure if i would list it unless it was done through an agency or soemthing like Kaplan.... your personal tutoring is not something a district can assess...whereas if it was done through an agency or a Kaplan type place they have a better idea of exactly what was required of you, etc.

i disagree. with a kaplan type of place you are following their program. with private tutoring you are developing lessons by yourself. private tutoring is relatively standard and it's easy to explain what you do during it if asked during an interview. to me, someone who works at kaplan vs. someone who privately tutors are 2 completely different things and are on different levels. private tutoring takes a lot more thought, planning and preparation.

agreed, it does take a lot more creativity and planning to tutor privately, but i think quantifying private tutoring is a lot harder. you may say you do this and that... but it may not necessarily be true and/or it doesn't "prove" teaching quality. not saying the above poster is not a good tutor, but how is that proven during an interview? KWIM?
