What Should I Do?

Okay thought i would post this here to see if I am crazy.

DH and I just got back from a two day stay out in Greenport. We had a GC for one night and we were going to pay for the second night. The hotel was beautiful and everything went pretty well.

Then saturday I am sitting on our bed and see a little brown ant walking across the bed. I flick it off and didn't really get upset about it as I understand these things happen. We just checked the beds and nothing was in it. Later that night we are getting ready to go to dinner and we notice that on the nightstand their is about 30 aunts crawling all over the stand as well as about 4 that were on the wall above the beds. Nothing on the beds though. We call downstairs and they said they will take care of it. 1/2 hour goes by and no one comes up, so we call again and say we are going to dinner.

Come back from dinner and get off the elevator and we were like WHOA the smell...then we got to our room and it was literally smelling like a horrible pepperment smell (we think they used peppermint oil). We had to open all the windows but the smell was horrible. I finally called down and asked to be switched to another room and they said they could not do that because they were booked that night and were very apologetic. Since it was past midnight at this point we could do nothing more and just slept with the blanket over our faces.

The next morning we went downstairs and the guy at the desk was saying they wanted to give us a discount and wanted to call me later after the manager could decide. I was like great and didn't complain anymore. Well they called my MIL (in error) and were like we will take of 10%. My MIL went off on them and they said they would call back after speaking to a manager.

10% are they kidding me. This room cost us over $300 for the night. I think a lot has to do with the fact that the GC covered half the room and they were only receiving cash for that one night.

Ugh i am so mad. It was such a lovely stay up until this point.

So do you all think I should complain more if they come back anywhere below 30%? I thought it would be at least 50%. And I told the guy at the desk to go up there and take a whiff...it still reaked in the morning and we had to wash every item of clothing we brought because they smelt of pepperment. I'm not a complainer but this is ridiculous.

If it were me I would settle for 50% but would never even consider going back unless the comped my room.....This is poor customer service and at that price they should have been kissing you azz to make it right not blowing smoke up it...JMHO

That's the way I felt. I was thinking they might comp it for the night, but then with the fact that it was a GC for the other night I thought at least 50%. I am not a big complainer, but this really has me mad. I understand things like this might happen, but the fact that they literally fumigated the room with this stuff......ugh.

I would demand they comp me. I would also be in the lobby and get louder so other people could hear me if they didn't go with that.

eww first of all gross for the bugs but i understand it happens.. second.. the smell.. how rude! i would go absolutely nuts-o on them. tell him you didnt pay 300 bucks to sleep with ants and bug spray.
also..tell them you work for a local LI paper or something and tell them you will be sure to tell everyone you know about your experience.. if you fight they will /SHOULD give you more of a discount..

look at it on the side of the manager.. of coarse hes not going to offer you the highest amount off if he can get away with someone settling for 10% off.. its a game. good luck!

As a manager he should offer to comp her so she doesn't tell everyone on the internet about it! Chat Icon

Re: What Should I Do?

why should it matter about the GC...the person who got you the GC didn't get it for free..they still had money plus your money.

You should have gotten the whole stay for free and if they wanted to do good customer service, they should have give you another GC for a free night.

Okay so i called this afternoon and the manager said she was sorry in error they told me 10% but it really was 20%. I told her i was very insulted about that and went on and on. She said she will speak to the owners and get back to me, but that is probably the highest they will go. I told her i want to write a letter to them and let them know my feelings which i am going to do. I still paid over $250 for this room for that night - ridiculous.

Re: What Should I Do?

did you put the charge on a credit card?

I would call the credit card company and dispute the charge.

Re: What Should I Do?

You should definitely get more than 50%. Whether you paid by g/c or not. That gift certificate was paid for.

I was staying at hotel in florida and in the toilet the chain had broken so you couldn't flush. I called and they were going to send someone, which they winded up doing but I got the room free because it took a while for someone to fix it.
