BC Question

Ok, this may sound like a strange question, but im really confused. I thought that when you are on BC you do not ovulate. But I had been having pains on my lower left side and my doc said that they were most likely ovulation pains. I told her that I was on BC and she said that she still believes they are ovulation pains. Also, would you get any other symptoms of ovulation on the pill? (like what normally happens)

Thanks!

Re: BC Question

The pill contains synthetic progestin and estrogen. These synthetic hormones prevent ovulation and if working well, prevent pregnancy. The "pill" deceives the body into thinking it is pregnant. A high level of progesterone is maintained which stops the secretion of FSH and LH. The result is that no new egg follicles are developed and no ovulation occurs.

So if the pill was working for you, you should not be experiencing ovulation pain.

I would get a vaginal u/s and see if the follies are maturing...and if they are..then the pill is not working.

As far as other ovulations symptoms, you would have high temps because of the progestin and you may feel bloated/tired.

Re: BC Question

Thank you, I know this might be tmi, but what about discharge. Isnt that a sign of ovulation? Also, could you possibly ovulate 10 days after the start of your last period. Thanks!

Re: BC Question

Yes you can ovulate cd 10,...I have :)

Cervical mucus happens whether on the pill or not...it's from estrogen. The pill provides synthetic estrogen.
