You do not need to be a certified teacher. All you need to do is score 90%-ile or above on a standardized test like the SAT, GRE, or LSAT and have great presentation skills. If you haven't tested in years, you can take a re-test. Private tutoring candidates only have to teach either Math or Verbal, teacher candidates must be able to teach the entire test.
