Spicy Food

I love, love, love spicy food.

Share your spicy food recipes. Mine:

Piri-Piri Shrimp

Kaffir Lime Leaves 1 whole
King Prawns (regular shrimp, tiger would be best) 1kg (2 lbs) green, peeled and deveined
Olive Oil 3 tbsp
Lime Juice 1/3 cup(s)
Piri Piri Seasoning 2 tbsp
Brown Sugar 2 tsp
Green Onions 1 whole finely sliced
Garlic Cloves 3 whole finely chopped
White Wine 1/4 cup(s)
Lemongrass (Fresh) 1 stalk (s) halved
Unsalted Butter 125 gm diced room temp
Chillies 1 whole or 1/2 tsp chilli sauce
Basil (Fresh) 1 tbsp
Thai mint leaves 1 tbsp (i have never used)

1. Combine prawns and piri piri seasoning, toss until well combined, and well coated.
2. Heat a large pan over a high heat, sauté prawns and oil, until golden, tender and pink.
3. Remove prawns from pan and allow to stand.
4. In a medium saucepan, combine lime juice, wine, sugar, green onions, garlic, lemongrass and kaffir leaves.
5. Bring to a rapid boil and reduce to 1/4 of liquid.
6. Remove from heat and slowly incorporate the butter, strain and add remaining ingredients.
7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. I like to add some fresh spinach and serve it on top rice.

Re: Spicy Food

mmmm that sounds good.... but I have a fish allergy. wonder if I can use chicken instead...

question for you... where do you buy kafir lime leaves? just when I was getting into cooking thai food (Without the fish sauce, of course!) my lime leaf supplier disappeared Chat Icon

here's my spicy recipe

saag paneer

6 oz paneer, diced
3 packs of chopped frozen spinach thawed and drained thoroughly
1 med onion diced (not in the traditional recipe, but I love onions too much!)
1" ginger grated
5 garlic cloves crushed
1 cup strained (or greek) yogurt-FULL FAT!
1T cumin-freshly ground
1t turmeric
1t-1T (to taste) indian chili powder or cayenne
1t corriander-freshly ground
1/4 t ground cinnamon
1/4 t ground cardamom
salt
1/4 cup oil of ghee (clarified butter)

heat up oil or ghee on med-high heat. add cumin turmeric, and chili. stir frequently and sniff for oil becoming aromatic (about 30s). be careful not to let it burn! Add onion and reduce heat. cook unil transparent. add ginger and garlic and cook another min. Add yogurt, corriander, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt, and stir. return to a simmer. let simmer until moisture has evaporated and grease forms around the edges. this will take maybe 20 min? Add paneer and about a cup of water. Let paneer simmer in sauce for about 30 min (stir occassionally). Add water as needed. sauce should be about as thick as a tomato sauce. Add spinach and break up until well incorporated into the sauce. Add water as needed and let simmer at least an hour. Stir occassionally.

Thanks for the recipe! I have tried it with chicken and it was good, but I prefer shrimp.

As for kafir lime leaves, I don't live in the US, and there is a large Thai community in this city (Sydney) so you can buy them at any supermarket or fruit shop. I freeze them b/c I only use one or two at a time and they freeze well.

I have done the recipe without the kafir lime leaves and just added a little bit more lime juice.
