Licensed SLP's I have a ?
I am completely finished w/ my CFY and have found another job. What I need to know is how long after you send in your last form (Form 4b) are you licensed. The license does not have to actually be in my hand, but it needs to be fully processed by the state.
I called the state and got 2 different answers:
answer #1: Since paperwork was being submitted on an ongoing basis, once the last form is submitted and processed, you will show up as licensed.
answer #2: Once final paperwork is in, it will be in inputted, which will take 7-10 days, then it has to go to the board for approval (another 7-10 days), then it has to be put in again...the whole thing takes about a month.
I am totally confused because 2 different people told me 2 different things. To be honest, answer 1 sounds right to me since they have paperwork and my fee processed already (since Sept 07).
Help!
Also, I have another question...
I am seriously confused w/ this CFY stuff. Maybe I am the only nit wit who does not get it, so please explain it to me. My supervisor said my CFY is for 36 weeks. I confirmed that w/ ASHA, but the state license web site is now saying 9 full months. I am very confused and need this cleared up pronto since my licensing paperwork has already been completed/filled out and signed. I don't want to submit it and then get delayed because it's wrong. Would ASHA have a shorter CFY time than NYS? That does not make sense to me at all. Please, if anyone knows the answer to even one of these questions, please post/fm. I am running out of time. TY

Re: Licensed SLP's I have a ?
I can't help with the paperwork stuff since I am not done until next year (doing CF part time).
BUT- 36 weeks is roughly 9 months, with a difference of approximately 1.5/2 weeks. I am assuming that since MOST people don't work 7 days a week, you're totally fine. You did your required time.
ETA: what job did you get?

Re: Licensed SLP's I have a ?
I got answers today and I wanted to post so maybe others can benefit. The whole process can be confusing.
As far as processing time w/ NYS. I was told by another rep at the office of the professions that paperwork is processed as it comes in. So at the end of your CFY you should have everything in but 4b. Once that is processed you show up as licensed in Albany. The only delay has to do w/ backlogged paperwork. If the state is behind or they have a lot come in at the same time, they can fall behind.
As far as the length of time...ASHA and NYS are different. ASHA requires 36 weeks (you actually need to count out weeks), but NYS requires exactly 9 months of FT work (min of 30 hours).

Also wanted to add a piece of advice:
*****Call NYS and ASHA at least a month and a half before your CFY is over. I did and found they were missing information that should have been sent. If I did not check and have the proper parties re-send it, my application would have botten delayed.*****
