I will continue to follow them as much as I always have. But, with the baby, I don't get to follow them as close as I used to.

Every team has ups and downs and a true fan sticks with their team no matter what.

Trust me, I've been an Islander fan since 1977 - I know from ups and downs.Chat Icon

gotta partially disagree with that definition of a "true fan". I've been a Met fan since 1982

A true fan supports the team no matter what - I agree. But, when you're watching games, and they make half-a$$ efforts on the field, and their supposed marquee players are making errors, that you KNOW they are better than, it's tough to invest yourself emotionally and time-wise into watching every single game, pitch by pitch - or going to games.

I still pay attention to the news and the team happenings, but if they're not making effort, neither should I. It'd be a different story if they lost but tried.

Now, of course, I may stating a moot point because they are starting to show small signs of life.

Well, since I still go to Islander games even with the way they have been playing - I guess I just feel differently.
Sometimes it's about bad mojo and sometimes different players don't mesh.
I hope they get their act together, but I won't stop watching them.

Hockey and baseball are two different mindsets. There are no truly BAD hockey teams out there - most of them make the playoffs anyway. And these guys aren't overly paid. You're not making tons of money playing hockey - so there's more passion from those who choose to play it

Baseball is different - you can SEE the lethargy and the lack of effort. And these guys are making all this money, for what? To hit into a double play? To miss an easy throw to third, to try to get a guy out on first and miss?

And, I, as a fan, am supposed to invest time and money into seeing this, when they obviously don't care about their performance?

Ditto here. We are also huge Giant fans and watching them win the Super Bowl in January after watching them sh!t the bed, year after year, was the most incredible feeling ever.

I don't think the Islanders aren't trying...they're young and still need to grow but they play hard. That's different, I think, than what Mets fans are complaining about.

While it pains me to see what is going on, I will continue to be a loyal fan and follow them closely.

I stuck through them in the early 90's when they were H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. I remember going to a game at the end of like the 91 season and there had to be no more then 2,000 fans in the seats.

However, I might not go to too many games. I think they are a rip off now. And it will only get worse next year.

Other.

I'm a fan, but I don't follow the game that closely.

I'll still be a fan, though. Just take less of an interest.
