Nervous: skin cancer related

I have my long awaited appointment w/ the dermatologist next week. I used to go for annual skin checks until a couple of years ago when I dropped my healthy NY to go on my schools health insurance, which did not pay for check ups.

I have had a growth on my forhead, right above my eye. DH says it looks like makeup had gotten under the skin. It's the same color as my skin, just noticeably raised. I have looked online numerous times to check and compare this to any cancer pictures, and it does not match up. When it first started developing, I thought it was the start of a pimple, but it never went away.

Does this sound like something I should be this nervous about? I wasn't going to take COBRA from my current job because we really can't afford it, but now I am scared. It's been on me for a couple of years now. I am trying to remember if it was there the last time I went to the dermatologist, but I don't remember.

I've had a few odd looking things that were nothing to worry about. I would get it checked out though. The sooner the better!
