Has anyone used a weightvest?
DH's aunt gave me one (she was a marathoner until she broke a vertebrae and now cannot run much at all, even after surgery)
My distance is fine, but she said if I want to lose some weight that the vest will help. I just can't think of wearing a heavy vest while running...maybe if it gets a bit cooler?
Has anyone tried one?

I would never add weight to my body while I am running...it really will only make you more prone to injury. There is tons of literature out there about what just an additional 5lbs does to your joints and ligaments when you run.

It's funny you mention joints...just the 10 pounds I gained from DS#2 I can sometimes feel in my knees! At least I'm telling myself it's the extra weight and not my age creeping up on me! Probably a combination of both.
Maybe I'll just do housework in it.

I have one but would never run with it on. I use it to walk on the treadmill and it has helped build my endurance.

Re: Has anyone used a weightvest?
It's good for walkers.. but not really for runners. My DH has a really good one. He uses it for walking or on the stairmaster. He runs also but doesn't use it for that.
It's becoming more common.. altho he does look like he is wearing a bullet proof vest at the gym.

Re: Has anyone used a weightvest?
thanks everyone. I did a search and the first page was all positive about it - but each page was an advertisement! (except one study done in 1993) The further I looked, I found a thread on RW that said it's a no-no for running. There are some benefits...but is it worth the joint risk damage?
Robyn...if you have any literature on hand that you could post - I would love to read it!

On skinny website there is a picture of Matthew Mcconnoghy running with one (I know I spelled his name wrong!)
