Runners...what pace to you run at?

I'm just curious. On the treadmill, I run between 5 and 6 MPH. On the track, considerably less, usually 5 or just under 5 MPH.

I know I can do better and that the shin splint was getting in my way. I can't WAIT to get back on the treadmill and track Chat Icon Chat Icon

It depends on what I want to do. I agree, that road running, I tend to be slower. But at first I was going tooooo fast on the road.

On the tread, if I want to do a longer, steady jog, I do 5.8, sometimes 6 with a 5 minute walk on 4 before and after the run. If I want to to interval training, I jog on 5.5, sprint on 7 and walk on 4.

It's not my speed that I'm not happy with, it's my length. I would like to go longer. I can do a 40 minute run on a steady 5.8. But on the intervals, I only last about 30 minutes.

I don't use the treamill much (I get too hot and bored), but I will use it for a tempo or interval workout from time to time. I will do between 6.5-7.5 (so that's like 9.5-8 min miles

on the roads, it depends on the distance, route and the workout. I like to do 9 min/miles or under.

ETA: I think the track is the hardest place to workout (unless it's interval) I can't keep track of laps and it's incredibly boring.

Off the treadmill I keep pace at about 8:15 per mile. On the treadmill, I push myself hard, I start off at 7.2 and work up to 8.3.

WOW Chat Icon Chat Icon

I aspire to be you!!

I run on the treadmill intervals between 7.2-8.0. On the road it really depends on my distance. I can run a sub 9 minute mile 10K..or about 9:30's on anything longer than 10 miles. With the distance I have to hold it back or I won't get up the hills and get that negative split I look for.

wow!

I wish i could do this! That's awesome.

If I'm going for distance I do 4.8 on the treadmill (but I'm still not really good at distance yet) and when I do intervals on the treadmill I alternate between walking at 4.0 and running at 6.0 because I'd like to work my way to a 10min mile.... right now i'm hovering around 12min Chat Icon But I was never a runner and I picked to work on it for the challenge.... and its a definite challenge!!

Re: Runners...what pace to you run at?

It's nice to hear that I am not as slow as I thought I was!

On the treadmill I start at 5.0 and switch over to 5.5.

Outside it varies because of hills and depends where I run but I would say it's about a 5 minute mile.

On the treadmill, I run between 5.5 and 6.0. Outside, I go a little faster and a little farther on average (I enjoy the scenery).

Re: Runners...what pace to you run at?

i am short, so i have a small stride. I am training for a half marathon, so im more concerned about distance than time at this point (im a beginner).

when training for my longer runs, im usually at about a 12 min mile (I ran a 10K that pace). for shorter runs to improve my time i run about 1030-11.

i know i'll never be fast, i dont have a runners body, and im ok with itChat Icon

6.6 - 7.0 on the treadmill. about 9:30 - 9:45 when outside and running long distances...

just do what your body is comfortable with. the more you run, the harder you can push yourself.

Re: Runners...what pace to you run at?

for short runs, somewhere between 10:30 and 10:45 min.s per mile. For long runs (over 6 miles), prob around 11 min. miles or more depending.

I'm tall and have very long legs but I'm still not fast! I have trouble going fast because i have asthma, it's all about keeping my beathing uder control when i run. if i start to pant i know i won't be able to last much longer.

Re: Runners...what pace to you run at?

I've never run on a treadmill, so I can't say what it is there.

Right now my pace is at about 7:25-7:30 per mile for short 5 mile runs. Increase the mileage and I slow down to about 7:45 per mile.
