we did the reverse, from LA to Vegas. very scenic. I don't think I remember it being more than 2 hours or so...but it was in '01.

I would do it again for sure!

Me too. I was going to Vegas for New Years though and the traffic was horrendous. Definitely not too much to look at. It took us FOREVER to drive from LA.

I would say it's about 4-5 hours. We have done Phoenix to LA, which is pretty much the same scenery. If you haven't really been in the desert - it's cool and exciting. One thing that we thought was "cool" coming down the mountains into Palm Springs (you wouldn't go through PS, but the view is probably the same) we could actually see the smog and that we were going from clear skies into smog.

You'll see a TON of wind power, cool saguaros, boulder mountains...it's definitely an experience to see that part of the country.

If there's any kind of traffic, it'll take more than 5 hours. Long weekends get very trafficy because so many people from LA and San Diego areas drive out there. I wouldn't really call it "scenic" - the first 3 hours or so are all highway and desert, it's very boring... but definitely an experience if you're not used to seeing desert and mountains.

We drove from Disneyland to LV on the last leg of our honeymoon. I remember it being long and boring. And HOT.
