GRR!! not sure WHAT to think!!
so i posted the other day that i had a couple skin biopsies done, and they supposedly came back as a "pre melanoma" so they wanted to do surgery to remove more skin in the area. WELL i wasn't happy with the first doctor i had- he just didn't take the time to explain things to me, etc. so i went to another doctor today to get a second opinion. now this doctor i did like much better... BUT she told me the exact opposite of what the other doctor told me! she said there was nothing in the report that indicated melanoma and that i didn't need surgery. sooo confusing hearing the total opposite thing from 2 doctors!!! BUT this new doctor did say that apparently when a lab tests skin they do the quick report, but they also take pictures of all the slides from the testing- so she is having those sent to columbia university to be checked to give her more info.. but as of now she said she doesn't see the indication of melanoma. NO IDEA what to think now!! i guess i just have to wait until the lab at columbia reviews the full slides and see what turns up... just sooo annoying not knowing whats going on!

WHAT?!?! Amazing!! I'm glad you went for a second opinion! Go for a third or fourth if you think it will help.

I would say go for a 3rd opinion if the 1st two say opposite things. If for nothing else peace of mind. People do this all the time.

I'd go for a third opinion since the first two were conflicting

wait until the slides come back. When the 2nd doc gets to review them, find out what he/she thinks and go from there. Find out who looked at them and how well know the pathologist is.
Your 3rd opinion if necessary should be at a cancer center.

thanks! this is what i'm going to do... the slides are going to columbia medical center in the city, which i know has a good rep. who knows? once the new doctor has more info, she might change her mind and want to do the surgery. i also sent the short report ( not the slides) into work with my friend. she works in skin research at Rockefeller university in the city, so she had the derms there look at it quickly. they basically said its kind of borderline, and without the slides its hard to make a good rec. so we'll wait and see... the main thing is that i found a doctor that i'm actually comfortable with and actually took time to explain things to me

good for you! Time will tell. While you're waiting just breathe. Either way, it sounds like you are in good hands.
