Re: Iced coffee
I make a pot of coffee and then chill it. I'll also make coffee ice cubes in the tray. Then I'll fill the glass with the chilled coffee, some coffee cubes, milk and sugar. Voila!

Re: Iced coffee
there is a special formual to making it at home
To brew, double the amount of coffee grinds you would normally brew for hot coffee. After the coffee is done brewing, remove it from the burner and let cool.
Pour the coffee into a temperature safe container, and add ice until the mixture cools and doubles in volume. Keep in mind that the melting ice dilutes the coffee, which is why Iced Coffee is brewed using twice the amount of grinds at hot coffee.

Re: Iced coffee
why do you have to double the strength of the coffee ?
I always make it, but just let me pot of coffee cool down and then refrigerate it. I dont add ice cubes at home. once in a while, but if its very cold, thats good enough for me.
Ive had starbucks ice coffee and I make two cups out of one because it's WAYYY too strong, I hate strong coffee. I water it downfrom starbucks

Re: Iced coffee
After reading this thread I had to make some. I brewed it regular strength but I didn't add ice. I mixed a little superfine sugar into the coffee before putting it in the fridge. I then added the milk, ice, and extra sugar to the glass.
Do some of you make a full batch of sweetened iced coffee with the milk already added?

Re: Iced coffee
I do.
I have a farberware 8 cup percolator.
every day or so, I brew 6 cups of water (I fill it to the 6 line) but I add 8 heaping scoops of Lavazza black can.
I let it cool (sometimes pouring it into a metal pan and sticking in the freezer to expedite the process) and keep it in the fridge.
I love it. it's better than anything brewing in the store...and cheaper!

Re: Iced coffee
I don't know about you girls, but I think quickly freezing the coffee itself INSTEAD of cooling it down by adding ice saves $$, b/c you don't have to double up.
I just add about 25% more coffee, and for the crushed Ice I put in my glass, it's perfect.
I have a round 9 inch cake pan and I pour the coffee in it and sit it on top of a wicker tirvet in the freezer until ice just starts to form.

Re: Iced coffee
I do this alot too. I add extra scoops and then let it cool on the burner...then pour it into a container and throw it in the fridge.
Then in the morning, I add simple syrup or creamer or just milk (depending on mood). I can do that for a few days.
If you are a really sweet drinker, I suggest adding the sugar while its still hot or using sugar syrup. But I always save the milk to make sure its fresh when I go to drink it.

I make coffee ice cubes. When I brew regular coffee, I add my milk and sugar and the coffee ice cubes and wait for it to cool off

This is how I do it also...I've tried other ways but the double strength is the way I like it best.

Re: Iced coffee
If you like iced coffee the Hamilton Beach BrewStation Deluxe is a must have!! I this coffee maker! DH and I pretty much only drink iced coffee and this is the only coffee maker I know of that makes iced coffee and right in the pot too! In 5 minutes it dispenses COLD iced coffee right into your cup! I love Starbucks so we buy the beans from Starbucks and brew our own! Easier and cheaper!
